In the Community
After many years of dreaming and planning, the
Cochrane Agricultural Society relaunched its community garden at the Fairgrounds in 2016.
Members plant, water and weed regularly to grow carrots, potatoes, beans, peas, chives, onions, lettuce, and more.
Anyone who wants their own plot can contact us.
One Potato, Two Potato
Launched alongside our garden, One Potato, Two Potato is our way of encouraging the younger members of our community to come plant some vegetables and to give back.
Participants, who come from nearby schools and daycare facilities, are given two potatoes to plant: one for themselves and one for the local food bank.
Grow Right, Eat Right
Learning how to grow food can help children make smart food choices as they grow up. In the Spring of 2018, we paired up with the Cochrane Public Library to provide seeds and guidance for its young patrons.
We showed participants how to plant tomatoes, basil, and more at various stages, until they were ready to be planted by the little gardeners in our Community Garden.
